  1. Where can I find the Library Catalogue of Curtin Sarawak Malaysia Library?
    The Library Catalogue is accessible through this website http://opac2.staff.curtin.edu.my:8000. From the page please click at Library Catalogue

  2. /OPAC and GeoWeb's screen is displayed. GeoWeb is Curtin Sarawak Malaysia Library's web-based library catalogue. GeoWeb can be accessed

  3. by everyone on one or more PCs in and outside the campus.

  4. How do I find a book from the Library Catalogue?
    After you click at Library Catalogue/OPAC and GeoWeb's screen is displayed. Please click at a and the page below will displayed:

  5. What does the 'Keyword Searching' function mean?
    The 'Search' function enables you to locate items that have one or more keywords in the record. If you enter more than one word in a keyword search, GeoWeb will look for records that contain all of the words. Please choose the search options (kw=All words, su=subjects, ti=Titles, au=Author, se=Series, sb=ISBN (consist of 10 digits International Standard Book Number, eg:1853177520), sn=ISSN (consist of 8 digits International Standard Serial number, eg:0360-1315) before you hit the Submit Search button.
    For more options, choose Advanced Search by clicking on the Advanced button which is listed on the Search Controls.

  6. What does the 'Browse Searching' function mean?
    You can browse through an alphabetical list of headings by entering:

    # The first few words of a heading for title if you choose to browse the titles. Eg: Type in Acco or Accoun or Account (to search for titles on Accountability, Accounting or Accountants) and at the search option choose ti=Titles before you click at Submit Search button.
    # If you want to browser for an author. You must type the surname of the author first, followed by the first name/initial. Eg. The author name is Douglas McTaggart, at the Browse for box, you type in McTaggart, Douglas or McTaggart, D. and choose au=Author before click at Submit Search button

  7. How to view the full description of the book?
    When you have found the title of the book, click on the full record and an overview of all book description is displayed. In the Library Holdings column, you can find in which category the book is located:

    CURTIN LUTONG AV (Please ask for the item from Circulation and Information Counter) AV 658 ROB Item is in the Audio Visual Collection. Students are allowed to borrow 2 CD-ROMs or diskettes (accompanying the textbooks) for 3 days while for VCDs, DVDs, videotapes and audiocassettes can be viewed/listened at the library's AV ROOM only.

    Item is not found in the library and the library staff is still in the process of searching the item before declared it as

    missing for reordering.


  8. Where can I find the online help function in the library catalogue?
    For further information on the search possibilities, you can consult the online help function of the Library Catalogue. This is a separate button on

  9. the homepage of the Library Catalogue. By clicking on help, you will enter this help function.

  10. Does it matter if I use upper and/or lower case letters?
    It does not matter which kind of letter you use. They are interchangeable.

  11. Can I consult the Library Catalogue from my work place or from home?
    Yes, if you have an internet connection (both Internet Explorer and Netscape). The Library Catalogue can be accessed via this website.

  12. Can I find journal articles in the Library Catalogue?
    No, only books, reports and subscribed hardcopy journals bibliographic records can be found in the Library Catalogue. If you wish to find the online journals' articles on e.g. a specific subject or author, you will need to access to GECKO.

    Library also has in the collection a number of magazines/journals donated by individuals, please refer to the List of Journals and Magazines for Foundation, Degree and Postgraduate Program which is available at the Circulation and Information Counter.

  13. I cannot find a book, which should be in the collection. What do I do?
    There are several reasons why a book is not on the shelves:

    # the book is not on order list (pls. fill in the Acquisition Request Form to suggest that the book should be ordered);
    # the book is still at new acquisitions (at the library workshop room);
    # the book has just been returned and is still on a return trolley at the Circulation and Information Counter;
    # it is a 'curriculum' book which is in the Reserved (Red-Spot) Collection or Teaching and Learning Collection;
    # the book is (still) being used by another user of the library;
    # the book has been put back in the wrong place on the shelves;
    # the book is missing/lost/stolen.

    In this case it is best to consult the Library staff at the Circulation and Information Counter or call ext 3912

  14. Book is not in the collection, can I get hold of it anyway?
    Yes, if this book is not available, you can request it via Interlibrary Loans (ILL). An ILL request form can be obtained from the Circulation and

  15. Information Counter. The ILL system allows staff and postgraduate students only to request material from other libraries. This is a fee-based

  17. How to hold library book that is on loan by others?
    Reservation forms (available at the Circulation and Information Counter) should be completed with full details of the item required and the name, ID No. & Course. Library Staff will process these forms, and the users will be notified when reserved items are available for collection.
