Library Collection
The Library provides a wide range of resources in-print and online. Full bibliographical
records of the resources are accessible through library catalogue: GEOWEB OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Most of the collections support the University's curriculum,
and the material meets the general collection criteria in each discipline as stated in the
unit outlines for the courses currently offered by the University. There are also materials
to support areas in Research and Development, Teaching and Learning, Staff Development, and
others related to community needs.
A. OPEN COLLECTION
This collection mainly supports the teaching, learning and research for both staff and
students. This collection can be borrowed. It
consists of textbooks, additional references
and leisure reading books.
B. REFERENCE COLLECTION
Reference materials (such as general and subject dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories,
standards, bibliographies, handbooks and textbooks) are held in the Reference Collection.
These materials are not available for loan. They can only be used within the library.
These
items are marked "R" (orange color) with prefix before the call number.
C. CLOSED RESERVE COLLECTION DIVIDED INTO 2 CATEGORIES:
(1) 2-HOURS LOAN ONLY
This collection consists of prescribed and recommended textbooks or essential texts stated
in the unit outlines and recommended by the lecturers. Texts with high demand will be put
under this collection as well. The identifier for this collection is the RED LABEL with
RED DOT on the spine. This collection can be borrowed for 2 hours/overnight at a time.
(2) 3-DAYS LOAN ONLY
This collection consists of media textbooks or reference texts as assigned by the Media's
Lecturer (or maybe other lecturer, based on their requirement), study manual, lab manual,
study guide and other texts that are not suitable for 2-hours loan period and not high in
demand. The identifier for this collection is the RED LABEL on the spine. This
collection can be borrowed for 3-days.
D. TEACHING AND LEARNING COLLECTION (T&L)
These are materials mainly used by the lecturers, which consists of textbooks,
instructor's manuals, solutions, test banks and others
related to teaching. The
identifiers for this collection are by the prefix "T" (yellow color) followed by
the call number.
E. PERIODICALS
Periodicals are items published on a periodical basis (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).
The Library subscribes to periodicals in a variety of disciplines. Please refer to the
list of journals available at the Enquiry and Lending Counter.
BOUNDED JOURNALS are shelved on the 1st Floor. Please ask the library staff at the
Information Desk if you need assistance.
F. BORNEO COLLECTION ARE DIVIDED INTO TWO(2) CATEGORIES:
• This collection consists of materials on Borneo with prefix "BC" (green color).
This collection can be borrowed for 7-days.
• Collection with prefix "BC" (green color, with red dot) is strictly cannot be borrowed.
G. STUDENTS' PROJECT COLLECTION
This collection consists of final year students' project. The identifier for this collection
is by the prefix "Q" followed by the call number.
Please ask from Library staff at the
Reference Service Counter.
H. AUDIO VISUAL (AV) COLLECTION
This collection consists of audiocassettes, videotapes, VCDs, DVDs and multimedia compact
discs. Please ask the library staff at the Enquiry and Lending Counter if you would like
to view/listen the materials and to get a headphone. The AV Room is located on the
1st Floor.
I. NEWSPAPERS
Local newspapers available are: Borneo Post, Eastern Times, New Straits Times and The Star.
Newspapers are located behind the Reference Counter. Back issues of newspapers are shelved
on the 1st Floor.
J. NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS
The newspaper clippings collection is a collection of local and national newspaper articles
on Curtin Sarawak Campus since 1999 to present. Sources including Borneo Post, Sarawak Tribune
and New Straits Times. To have access, please visit: http://library.curtin.edu.my/Newspaper/
K. SCHOLARLY ELECTRONIC DATABASES
Gecko is Curtin University's gateway to a wide range of information resources including
library databases, library catalogues and more.
It allows you to simultaneously search
multiple databases and library catalogues to find research material. Gecko can be accessed
from
any computer terminal with Internet access. Simply follow the link from the
Curtin Sarawak Campus Library Web Page. To login:
Curtin students use their Curtin Perth ID and their OASIS password.
Curtin staff use their Curtin Perth ID and their Novell password.
Full access is limited to Curtin University staff and students only.
L. LECTURERS' NOTES, TUTORIAL SOLUTIONS AND READING MATERIALS
Some lecturers deposit material at the library for their students’ reference. This includes:

This collection is arranged according to the lecturer's name or school. Please ask from the
Library staff at the Reference Service Counter
for assistance.
M. Research Papers
The research papers are collection of papers or articles presented and published by
Curtin Sarawak Campus staff from year 2001 till present. The papers can be accessed by
Curtin Sarawak Campus staff and students only. To view the fulltext:
Curtin Sarawak staff use their Curtin Sarawak ID and password.
Curtin Sarawak students, please get the login ID and password from the
Reference Services counter's library staff.
