Borrowing Procedures

 

Borrowing from the Library
The staff at the Enquiry and Lending Counter will be pleased to give advice on borrowing facilities, access to the books and, or any other aspect of Library use.

Your Curtin Sarawak student ID card is your library card. You MUST present your Student ID card every time you wish to borrow the library items.

Borrowing facilities are as follows:

Borneo with prefix "BC" (green color). This collection can be borrowed for 7-days.
Borneo with prefix "BC" (green color, with red dot) is strictly cannot be loan out.
Audio Visual Collection (multimedia CD-ROMs, VCDs, DVDs, videotapes, audiocassettes) Ground Floor 1. Pre-University Studies and Undergraduates

Students may borrow CD-ROMs and diskettes (accompanying the textbooks) for 3 days while for VCDs, DVDs, videotapes and audiocassettes can be used at the library's AV ROOM only.

* All books on loan are subject to recall should other users require them.


RESERVATION
Items that are already on loan may be reserved. Reservation forms should be completed with full details of the item required and the

name, ID No. & Course. Library Staff will process these forms, and the users will be notified when reserved items are available for

collection.


RENEWAL AND RECALL OF LIBRARY
Books are initially loaned for a period of two weeks and may be renewed for an additional two weeks when not required by other users. Applications for renewals MUST be made in person. When a renewal is required for a third time, the item (s) MUST be presented at the Enquiry and Lending Services counter. If the period of loan had already expired, renewal will be made only on the personal application

of the borrower provided that any outstanding fines are paid.


PENALTIES FOR OVERDUE ITEMS
As for items from RESERVED/RED SPOT COLLECTION, the penalty for overdue items/returned late is 50 cents (RM0.50) per hour,

per item.
For other collections, the penalty for overdue items:returned late is 50 cents (RM0.50) per day, per item.
Items that are not returned within 6 weeks of the date due are presumed lost. (Please refer to REPLACEMENT FOR LOST/DAMAGED

ITEMS for details).
The penalty must be paid, even if the items are returned. Borrowers with overdue items or unpaid fines will have their borrowing privileges suspended and their result will be withheld.


OVERDUE NOTICES
The Library sends first overdue notice as a courtesy remainder. Library Staff will send a reminder notice for those whose borrowed items

are nearly due through email. Email and letter will be sent for second overdue notice if the items are still not yet being renewed/returned.

If the items not being returned within 6 weeks of the date due are presumed lost, third overdue notice will be sent with a copy forwarded

to Account Department and Registrar's Office. Their result will be withheld.



REPLACEMENT FOR LOST/DAMAGED ITEMS

  1. Replacement by Library
    Items that are not returned within 6 weeks of the date due are presumed lost and an additional notice is issued to cover the replacement (including fines already incurred up to the date on which the item was reported lost). Patrons are responsible for the processing fee
  2. charge of RM20.00 in addition to the fines charge of replacement item. The cost of replacing the lost items will be based on the current market price.

  3. Replacement by Patrons
    Upon reporting the item lost, if the patrons intend to source the replacement for the item by themselves, they will need to notify the library within a week about the sourcing. If the items can be sourced locally, patrons will need to replace the book within one month from the date
  4. of the lost reported. If the item is being ordered from overseas or out of stock within the country, the procedure could take up to four months. Patrons are responsible for the processing fee charge of RM20.00 in addition to the replacement of item. The Library will impose the Replacement by Library's procedure for failure to fulfill the replacement within the period.

  5. Replacement for Damaged Items
    Patrons will have to pay repair charges for damages done to the items borrowed. Patrons are responsible for the processing fee charge
  6. of RM20.00 as well. The library will send the item for repair, after which the patron will be notified as to the cost of repair. If the item is damaged beyond repair, the replacement charges will be levied as a lost item.
